Hi, I’m Matt Tillotson, and this is Matt’s Mix Tape. My life is a new mix these days. And so is this newsletter. Can you get great at saying no? I’m trying. This week we launched the Write of Passage Mentor Team for Cohort 9, which begins in October.
Well done on approaching those conversations with grace, Matt. I faced my fair share of rejections this year and could've benefited from more honesty and specificity. Awesome that you didn't veer away from the tough chats. I'll check out The Courage to Be Disliked. Thanks for the recommendation.
Great post. I am retired but have had deliver messages like this many times over the years.Your comments are a cogent summary of my experiences which included many slip ups. As Alexandra notes the "launching pad' comment is terrific and when people are shown this-great things can happen.
“Hearing no often feels like an ending. But it can also be a launching pad.”
Wise words, Matt! That’s been my attitude toward rejection as I’ve gotten older and no matter how painful the initial sting, I’ve been able to accomplish more because I used it as a launch pad to go in a new direction.
It's cool to see the mentor group photo without ┃mentor written next to their Zoom names! Like seeing a baby photos of adults.
Hey Matt, no illustration this week? Great newsletter, I missed the drawing.
